About Us
Alpha House, Inc, a faith based organization, seeks to serve women leaving incarceration. The lack of rehabilitative programs available to women directly impacts the recidivism rate. Unfortunately, most of these women return to their former lifestyle due to the absence of programs to help them transition back into society. The basic physical needs of women leaving incarceration are food, clothing, and lodging. Providing a safe and monitored environment, free of drugs and illegal activity, will meet these fundamental requirements. In addition, they also have spiritual, educational and emotional needs. Alpha House believes that spiritual wellness is the springboard to complete restoration. Therefore, church attendance, Bible study and discipleship are key requirements of participation in our program. Our life skills training bridges educational gaps by providing instruction in budgeting and finance, writing a resume, effective interviewing, basic computer skills, domestic responsibilities and self care. This multi level approach, by its nature, will allow residents to experience a new level of personal success, thus rendering positive effects on emotional needs. Alpha House is a three month in residence program broken into three phases, using a multi-level approach with each successive phase building on the previous. Phase I includes an intake interview designed to accurately assess the individual’s needs and establish appropriate and realistic goals. It is the most closely monitored phase of the program. Initial integration requires completion of reading assignments, mandatory attendance at all meetings and appointments, and participating in community assigned tasks. Phase II includes fulfilling their legal requirements such as parole/probationary hearings and court appearances. Physical fitness training and other set objectives designed to achieve immediate goals occur during this phase with increased opportunities to earn more privileges. Phase III is the transition period where employment and housing assistance is pursued. Weekly evaluations for progress, church attendance, discipleship training and random drug testing are incorporated into all three phases. In order to successfully deal with the myriad types of addictive self destructive behavior patterns, it is imperative to collaborate with existing organizations; utilizing the expertise of available resources. Connecting our residents with the appropriate organization will expand the potential for personal achievement. The projected measurable benefit will be a lower rate of recidivism and the restoration of families. This will ultimately alleviate the burden on taxpayers, and produce a better equipped workforce and safer communities which will positively impact society as a whole.
